UCLUELET MAYOR: 2018 -2022As Mayor I was always about ‘boots on the ground’, and proud to lead Ucluelet…after spending four years as a Councillor. I’m a no-nonsense guy who brings practical solutions that are guided by long term strategy and partnerships. I kept my promise to maintain an open and respectful dialog with our community and District staff regarding the issues facing Ucluelet. I kept the momentum going on long term projects like water supply, housing and business development, health care and safe schools to ensure Ucluelet is prepared for the future.

SMALL BUSINESS TO THE CORE
For those who don’t know me, I was born and raised in Ucluelet. My family travelled from Quebec back in the mid-1960’s, as they saw the opportunity to thrive and build a life on the west coast.
My father started in Forestry, but always had a passion for small business. After a decade in Ucluelet, he and my mother purchased the West Coast Motel. Over the next thirty years, his love for Ucluelet, hard work, tenacity, and perseverance awarded him the opportunity to grow businesses in multiple sectors throughout our community (including the Harbourview Restaurant in Ucluelet). This provided jobs and stability for locals. I was taught the values of hard work, sacrifice, and dedication, which helped me support not only my family but the valued employees that have worked with us over the years. These core principles awarded me the opportunity to become a trusted leader within the Coulson Group of Port Alberni for over 25 years. My time at Coulson’s has provided me the opportunity to invest in our community and open my own business, the ‘Rent-It-Centre’ in Ucluelet. The first quality I noticed about Mayco was his ability to get things done; he seems to have endless energy. He always accepted the challenges of supervision and made hard decisions.
